National Day fireworks display to be held at 9pm on October 1 (with photos)

The National Day fireworks display will light up Victoria Harbour tomorrow (October 1) to celebrate the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Starting at 9pm, 31,888 firing shells will be discharged in the 23-minute display.

The display is sponsored by the Hong Kong Federation of Fujian Associations and co-ordinated by the Home Affairs Bureau.

The fireworks display consists of nine scenes of different themes. The first scene will feature colourful fireworks of smiling faces and the Chinese characters for "China, October 1" to celebrate the National Day. In scene six, an attractive display of willows and chrysanthemums in different colours will fill the sky with brilliant light. The fireworks display will reach its climax in the last scene with fast and rhythmic firing of shells for 52 seconds in gorgeous colours of red, yellow, green ! and purple.

The display can be seen from many vantage points on both sides of the harbour, including Tsim Sha Tsui, the Mid-levels, Central District, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay and the Hung Hom Bypass.

To make the display even more enjoyable, viewers are invited to tune to Radio Television Hong Kong Radio Four (FM 97.6 - 98.9) for synchronised music.

People are urged to help keep public areas clean and to show respect for public property. They are also urged to show consideration in order to make the event a safe one.

LAWRENCE: Yeah, actually they're writing the script, as we speak. We're just waiting for it to come together. I think Jerry Bruckheimer is meeting with some of my people. Will came down to see me, when I was filming Death at a Funeral, and I was like, "What do you think? Do you think we can do it again?" And, he said, "Oh, most definitely! We've gotta do it again." So, I think it's going to happen, as long as we get Michael Bay back on board, which I hear he's interested in doing it again. If we can get the whole team back together, then we have the best of both worlds.

Where would you like to see that go?

LAWRENCE: I enjoy shooting in Miami. It just depends on what other storyline you have in Miami. I don't think that we would be cops in another city, or anything like that. I just want it to get better. With somebody like Michael Bay or Jerry Bruckheimer, the sky's the limit. They like to blow things up, so I know we'll be blowing some more things up. I'd just like to see us have a lot of fun, and me and Will stretch our acting range.

Do you know what you'll be doing next?

LAWRENCE: Things are in the works. We've talked about Bad Boys 3. We've talked about me and Jamie Foxx doing a movie called The Skank Robbers, that takes the characters from Martin, Sheneneh and Wanda, and puts them together. They're trying to work that script out. And, I'm probably going back out on a stand-up tour in April. I'm just going to have fun with it and let it ride until it's time to come off the road.

TEES MAAR KHAN Bollywood is replete with examples of fetishes of film makers who closely associate these fetishes with the success of their films. The earliest example is that of film maker J Omprakash who always wanted his movie titles to begin with A; and in recent times we have the example of Karan Johar, who has a similar fetish with the letter K. Farah Khan, who began her career as a choreographer and quickly moved into the shoes of another Khan choreographer (Saroj Khan) quickly won a lot of acclaim for her work and then decided to expand her role to include film direction. Having got the box-office ringing with her first two ventures, MAIN HOON NA and OM SHANTI OM (both of which had Shah Rukh Khan playing the lead), she perhaps concluded that since both the films had three words, three is a lucky number for her. So soon after the success of the first two movies, she gave birth to triplets and her husband, an electronics engineer, Shirish Kunder and she floated a production house called Three's Company! She also perhaps knew that the presence of Shah Rukh Khan in the first two movies was a big factor for the success of those movies, but because she was not having him in her next movie (I will not go into the reasons for that here), she felt that the word KHAN appearing in the title would help. When she was finding it difficult to combine the word KHAN with her fetish for "TEEN" to get the title of her new movie, I presume a well-wisher perhaps told her that using a multiplication factor of ten would triple the chances of the movie's success; thus the word "TEES" came into the title. The choice of the third word was relatively easy, since the phrase TEES MAAR KHAN connoted a braggart and which was in tune with the character of the script itself. The next exercise was to find an inspiration for this tale and happily for her, that was also a three worded Peter Sellers starrer: AFTER THE FOX. Also, perhaps other well wishers suggested to her that she must have as many Ks as was possible in the film crew and therefore had her husband Kunder work for the background music, write(?) the story, co-produce and write some of the lyrics. The star cast also had a number of Ks: AKshay Kumar, AKshaye Khanna, Katrina Kaif, Sachin KhedeKar and special artistes like Salman Khan and Anil Kapoor! Now about the movie itself. Claiming to be a parody, it turns out to be a rather inane effort. Several scenes of the movie looked utterly pedestrian both in conception and execution and the only saving grace is the performance of Akshaye Khanna in the role of an Oscar hungry actor. Of course, the review will not be complete without the mention of the much touted Sheela Ki Jawaani number by Katrina Kaif; but Katrina with her innocent looks doesn't ooze with oomph despite the raunchy lyrics and the dance movements. I would rate Munni Badnaam from Dabangg (also choreographed by Farah) as a better song although the joke which I heard when I was coming out from the theatre was: Agar Sheela Ki Jawaani Pehle Aati, to Munni Badnaam Na Hoti!

Learn how to jailbreak your iPhone 4, iPod Touch or iPad in a matter of seconds - and why you might want to think twice before bending the bars and fleeing Apple's prison.

Almost without exception, when a new piece of software is released, someone will find a way to hack it, and the more famous the software, the quicker someone is to find a way around the security. So it should come as no surprise that the iPhone 4 has not only been hacked, there is a simple and easy software that will allow others to hack it — or jailbreak it — themselves. Today, Jailbreakme released its new software that will allow you to hack your iPhone 4, iTouch, and iPad running iOS 3.2.1 or newer, and it is quick and easy to do.

To jailbreak an iPhone is an easy matter, but it can be a foreign concept to people that are not all that tech savvy. Plus, with Apple now legally unable to prevent people from jailbreaking their phones thanks to a new copyrightexemption, Apple has reverted to the old classic preventative measure of trying to scare people away from jailbreaking software.

A Word of Warning

While the upside to jailbreaking your phone is huge — new apps, more control over your phone, and soon another jailbreak software will allow you to choose your own carrier — there are a few downsides you should be aware of. The biggest issue is with Apple itself. If you jailbreak your phone and find yourself in need of tech support, Apple will likely greet you with a disapproving look, followed by a “tutting” sound, before they tell you that by hacking your iPhone, you have violated the terms of service, and are now exiled from the loving embrace of Apple’s tech coverage. They will not help you, and you will no longer be under warranty. Of course, depending on the issue, you could always return it to factory settings, which might slip by the Apple techs’ watchful eyes.

The next problem is the equivalent of Ralphie in the Christmas Story being warned that he would shoot his eye out if he owned a BB gun. In other words, the worst case scenario that sounds terrifying. Occasionally things mess up. It happens. Especially in tech, where hundreds of companies exist solely to unmess our screwups. One such issue is called “bricking” your iPhone- which basically means that the device becomes frozen and unresponsive. Apple would have you believe that you are done, and the bricked phone is your penance for an unrighteous life in terms of your cellular use. Thankfully, there are several easy fixes, depending on exactly what caused it. In most cases, you simply hold down the “home” button then connect the phone to the dock while your computer is running. ITunes will then recognize the phone as being in recovery mode, and will reload the last firmware. You will probably lose some data, as well as the jailbreak software and any apps that aren’t Apple approved, but you can always find them again.

How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 4

As to how you can jailbreak an iPhone, it is a straightforward process. The first thing you should do is to back up your iPhone to iTunes just to be safe.

Next, you need to download the jailbreak software on your phone. Jailbreakme released its software today, and it is easy to use. Just head to JailbreakMe.com on your iPhone to begin.

Once you are there, you simply “slide to jailbreak”. That’s it. Let the software do its thing, and soon you will see a pop up that confirms that the software program dubbed “Cydia” has been installed. Reboot your iPhone and you are done!

Optimizing µTorrent for Speed

Optimizing a Bittorrent client like µTorrent for speed is an easy process: Choose a proper port, clear that port through software firewall and router and adjust internal settings based upon upload capacity of the internet connection. Basically, the port forwarding allows incoming communications and the capping of upload allows room for outgoing communications. This guide hopes to set forth clearly these basic "truths" for getting the best download speeds in µTorrent.
There are some programs that claim to optimize speed in µTorrent. Such programs are a scam and generally contain adware or spyware. I have seen it said, by the developers of all bittorrent programs, that nothing will increase your download speed in a bittorrent client more than the basic steps set forth herein.
Note: This guide is based upon µTorrent version 1.8 and the locations of settings has changed from earlier versions. If you have an earlier version, then I would suggest you update to the latest version as there is a "highly critical" security flaw in earlier versions of µTorrent as reported by Secunia.
This guide will have the proper locations for version 1.8 and any versions after that.
This guide will also help users of BitTorrent 6.1 (and later versions) as it is identical to uTorrent 1.8 (See Best Free Bittorrent Client)

Forwarding the Port - This allows incoming connections. If your network indicator is not showing green, then you should follow these steps.
Adjusting Internal Settings - Primarily this caps upload to allow room for outgoing communications. There are other adjustments to ensure that your upload is distributed properly. If you have a green network indicator, then you can go to this section.
Good Torrents - This section links to the Good Torrents page at the Azureus-Wiki to give an idea of which torrents will most likely give the best download speed.

Forwarding the Port

Essentially this is about setting permission in your software firewall and router for your bittorrent client to send and receive communications.

Choosing a proper port Azureus-Wiki: Port is Blacklisted
A single port within the 49152-65534 range should be chosen to avoid ISP blocks and possible conflicts with other applications. The option to "Randomize port each start" should be disabled. These settings are at Options>Preferences (Ctrl+P)>Connection.

Forwarding the Port: Essentially this is about setting permission in your software firewall and router for your bittorrent client to send and receive communications.

Software firewall – The best place to look is in the help file of your software firewall. There are some guides at the µTorrent forum and also at PortForward.com Firewall Guides (choose firewall and then program). Communications should be allowed for TCP and UDP in both directions.

Router (or modem with firewall) - There are two choices here, Universal Plug n Play (UPnP) or manual forwarding. The choice is basically convenience versus security. UPnP is easy, but has security issues. A router blocks unknown incoming connections at the hardware level and provides significant protection for your computer. Enabling UPnP allows any program to create a port mapping through the router without consent of the owner. I would suggest to at least try manual port forwarding through the router as it is not as difficult as it may seem (especially with the guides) and is safer. In any event, read the following section on UPnP as it is an either/or situation and UPnP will have to be disabled if manually forwarding.

Manual Port Forwarding: Portforward.com µTorrent Router Index

Again, the router documentation is the best place to look for this information. PortForward.com µTorrent Router Index has guides for almost all routers and µTorrent. Choose the make and model of your router and you will be taken to a page with a guide specific to µTorrent and your router. Many of the µTorrent client screenshots will be out of date as it is constantly updated, but the information should still apply and the screenshots here should help. Make certain to also check the Static IP Guide.

When finished, you can test to see if your port is properly forwarded at Can you see me?.

Adjusting Internal Settings

This involves taking a speed test, using the calculator to determine the settings that should be used and inputing those settings in your client. The most important setting is to cap upload at no more than 80% of your overall upload capacity as there needs to be room for communications to the tracker or else download speeds will suffer. Download could also be capped (at 90%), but this is not necessary as this is rarely an issue.
µTorrent does have a built in Speed Guide (Ctrl+G), which has links to a speed test, port test and has a pulldown menu of common upload speeds that will automatically make these adjustments. I ran my µTorrent under both configurations and found my speed significantly better using the below. There is very little extra work involved and the results make it worth it.

Speed Test: Speedtest.net
First the upload capacity of your internet connection must be determined by taking an online speed test. You should stop all internet activity, including torrents, before taking the test and the test should be taken a few times to obtain a reliable average. Speedtest.net has test locations worldwide and will highlight the one closest to you. Note that the result of Speedtest.net is in kilobits (kb) and bittorrent clients show speeds in kilobytes (kB). This is important as 8kb = 1kB. See Azureus-Wiki: Data Units

Calculator: Azureus Upload Settings Calculator
Once you have an average upload speed for your connection go to the online Azureus Upload Settings Calculator. Although designed for Azureus, this calculator will work for all bittorrent clients. Enter your average upload speed in the appropriate box and the calculator will automatically give the proper figures to adjust various options in your client.

µTorrent Settings

Upload and Download Caps; Max Connections and Upload Slots (Ctrl+P)>Bandwidth

Max Active Torrents and Max Downloads (Ctrl+P)>Queueing

Peer Sources
At (Ctrl+P)>BitTorrent you will note the "Basic BitTorrent Features" section in the middle of the screen. These are the Peer Sources for µTorrent. These sources are enabled by default and should be left enabled (as shown below) as they allow you to connect to more seeds/peers and therefore get better speeds. These sources include DHT (Distributed Hash Table) and PEX (Peer Exchange) which will allow connections to seeds/peers outside of the tracker and can keep your torrent alive even if the tracker goes down. The LPD (Local Peer Discovery) is useful if you are on an extended network as it will search the network for individuals active on your torrents. If it finds someone, you will be able to receive data at a much higher rate as it will be transferred within your network.

"It's awesome. It rocks."

Pros: Easier to use than the rest - don't have to do anything. Doesn't offer hundreds of config options. Is for home users. Not over taking over windows like norton. Not in your face all the time. It works. It detects stuff.

Cons: Cookie. Tracking cookies. I don't care about the cookies. Everyday with the cookies - daily scan.
Summary: I bought it before trying it out. I've been using all the freeware anti virus apps for so long, I knew vipre was going to be the one. I am not surprised by it's performance. It is expected. Just like you've always been expecting yourantivirus to be. It overrules avira, avg, avast, nod, norton (everything overrules norton), bit defender? Come on, no one left. Kaspersky - it's heavy. Vipre - he's not heavy, he's my brother.

We completely redid the AV and bundled them together in October. The new
product is called Comodo Internet Security.

It may just take some time to get more popular. But if you try it and like

Brad Pitt was left on the street in Toronto, Canada as he prepared for his film festival appearance on 5 September - when a fire forced the evacuation of the hotel he was staying in.

The movie star was staying at the Park Hyatt in the city when management decided to ask all guests to leave when a blaze broke out at a condo complex next door.

Pitt's security team jumped to action to make sure the actor could be evacuated safely and without a media fuss, according to Life + Style magazine.

An eyewitness says, "It was total chaos. His security team immediately decided to evacuate Brad to avoid any possible threat. He was surrounded by eight security men and four policemen - it was crazy. It was as if Brad was the president!"

Within two hours Pitt was given the all-clear to return to his suite.
